Truchard 2005 Estate Syrah - Napa Valley

Truchard Vineyards' 2005 Syrah comes from the winery's estate vineyard where the vines benefit from the unique combination of soil, exposure, and cool Carneros temperatures. The region's mild summer climate gradually ripens the estate's Syrah grapes, allowing for an extremely long "hang time" that promotes an elegant wine with intense aromas, rich flavors and beautiful structure...very reminiscent of the northern Rhône. Floral aromas of ripe plum, cassis, and blackberry are highlighted in the wine with milder notes of vanilla, earth, and white pepper coming though in the background. The mouthfeel is rich, layered with flavors of black cherry, berry jam, and red currants, followed by mineral and cracked black pepper nuances. Mouth-filling tannins provide an opulent finish of fruit and spice that linger on the palate. Truchard's 2005 Syrah was awarded a Silver Medal at the SFBJ American Fine Wine Competition in addition to being named a "Wine of the Week" by the Washington Times newspaper. Try pairing this award-winning 2005 Syrah with barbecued lamb, ribs, and robust lasagnas or casseroles. Aged 10 months in oak. Enjoy now until 2015.
