  • "Standard British Accent" = Received Pronunciation (RP). Look it up.

  • And I don't understand why people are so upset. If she wants to imitate a posh accent let her!

  • Not fair! I'm English and you do it better than me!

  • RIGHT. Whatever people may say this is considered the Standard British, more rightly so English, accent. Yes England is a country made up of many different accents BUT this is what the BBC, Radio, Advertisements and a large amount of people sound like in England. This is the accent we are known for. Just because a few people from different parts of England are having a cry because they aren't being represented do not listen to them, this is the standard English accent.

  • @IntrepidMoocher Seriously?! This is considered the 'Standard British' accent! If we are being really picky it would be the 'Standard English' accent. However the title and the accent she is doing is correct.

  • Okay, I'm English and I think Amy's done pretty well to do that accent, let alone all the other ones. Yes, she might only be doing one aspect, and yes, it's "not so standard English not British" but to the outside world people generally think British people have English accents. Never knew why though...

But anyway, I think your accents are amazing Amy - I can do a few, but not nearly as many as you can and not nearly as well either. I like your analogies too - they help a lot to remember it! :3

  • @IntrepidMoocher Well, this type of accent is recorded on most CDs included in English coursebooks.

  • @hazymat

You labeled your comment correctly! You clearly haven't been to Britain because NOT everyone in Britain sounds like that. Those were examples of people living within Britain that DON'T sound anything like what she did. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A STANDARD TRAIT which connects different accents within a country. Oh and please if you are trying to look smart on the Internet at least do it properly... "tortological" FUCK OFF MATE.

  • @tharronn91 Stupid comment of the year. That's like saying "there's no such thing as a standard American accent" because there is such a variation of accents within the country. Well yes, this is tortological, but completely misses the whole point of a "standard".

A standard British trait might be the "stiff upper lip". Doesn't mean Scotts aren't tight-lipped, Welsh aren't full of rubbish, scouses aren't larey. Just means it's a standard trait, that's all.

    Quit with the criticising!

  • You, Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow are the onlt Americans I've heard that do truly convincing English accents!
