@Gorky32 Ye! It was on Sportsnight on BBC1! They asked Eu whether he watched the fight. He sd s'thg like "No, i find watching boxing quite tedious! I much prefer the fine literature in this room!"

He then sd he had jst had some dental work done, as Dan Schommer had knocked his tooth out. The dentist said he had one of the hardest jaws he had ever seen!

Lots (incl' Baz Hearn) thought Eu lost v Schommer, & that he was now ready 4 the taking!

Weird, Schommer only lost that 1 fight!

@Gorky32 lol, ye, i've got a memory 4 trivia! i only saw that clip once too! Sportsnight & Midweek Sports Special, those were the days!

@ the press conf' b4 the Wharton fight, Micky Duff called Eu "scum" & Eu wanted to walk out! But no glassing.

Ye, Eu looked bad @ altitude vs Schommer, despite arriving in Sun City 3 wks b4 & making all the right noises etc. The WBO judges scored 4 his aggression, apparently, but Eu later admitted he lost the fight on "strategic thinking boxing"!!

Just found out if you search for "BBC Sports Review of the Year 1994: The Funnies", you'll see the clip we've been referring to! it's only about 4 seconds though!

@oldaliu lol. Lol. I've got a pretty good memory too. However, like you, I tend to remember trivial things more so than the important stuff.

I vaguely remember that Alistair McGowen thing on the Sport's Personality - lol at the ''secret of boxing is to never get into a fight'' line.

Sorry, I don't I'm afraid. I used to have it on VHS but I don't have it anymore. If I come across a copy I'll stick it up though.

@Gorky32 lol! ye, well, shame i couldn't use my memory 4 exams etc! i normally did record Sportsnight but didn't 4 some reason that night!

I also recall the day after the Wharton fight = '94 BBC Sports Personality thingy. this was when Alistair McGowen (??) impersonated Eu's voice over the clip we hv referred to (dentist talk etc) "the secret of boxing.......is to never get into a fight!"

Hv u got Eu vs Close 2 - the "goodbye to ITV" fight!

@oldaliu I remember all that too only difference being I used to have all that on VHS and have watched it numerous times - not seen it for a very long time tho. The fact that you can recall it almost ad verbatim after only one viewing is very impressive.

lol @ Micky Duff calling Eu scum - like he was in any position to talk. lol.

Eu was very gracious in his post-fight interview and was full of praise for Schommer. I always liked that about Eu - he was pretty honest most of the time. Cheers

@oldaliu lol. You've got a very good memory. I remember him mentioning that about his dentist told too. lol

I watched the Schommer fight the other week actually. Eubank definitely lost that fight. Schommer might have looked like a slightly overweight business man but he was actually pretty a good fighter. He was a good counter puncher and he was very adept at making Eubank miss and then coming back with quick, accurate counters. He actually holds a win over Virgil Hill in the amateurs. :)

No, I'm afraid not. However, I do remember that. The African fella was called Sipho Moyo and Wharton flattened him with a thumping left counter to the ribs if I remember correctly. Eubank was there in his suit, as you say, soaking up the hatred. I even remember him saying that he didn't believe that there was a man alive who could KO him when the interviewer asked him if he was worried about Wharton's left hook. lol

Shame ur not allowed to put the entrance up - Eu on a crane! Shame this was his last World Champ'p win too.

Hv u got the clip when Eu went to watch Wharton's previous fight in York (he k.o'd an African guy(?) with a body shot early) & then Wharton & his fans looked up & called out at Eu - who was staring at them all, soaking in the hatred!

Those were the days!
