Carl Belew's superlative Country song is given a velvet like performance by the great Jim Reeves. One thing I can't understand is how this beautiful arrangement was later changed to another one which wasn't half as good in my opinion.
There are many versions of this song including Marty Robbins, Don Gibson, Debbie Reynolds, Prairie Oyster, Carl Belew and Ray Price, but this Reeves version takes some beating in my opinion.

  • It's only my opinion, but the original was better and had no need to be messed about with. Another track the greedy record company fiddled with was Jim's version of 'Moonlight And Roses.'

I think the guy who did Jim's original arrangement on his 'Touch Of Vevet' must have been mightily miffed when he heard the new one.

  • I must agree about 'An Old Christmas Card.' What a wonderful performance and such a great Christmas song that should really be a standard. Marty Robbins is my favourite singer, but Jim has always been a very close second to me.

Forget the technicalities. The voice and delivery are hard to beat. Compare today's vocalists and you will find none.

  • Great song, Better Voice. Could this man sing ore what?

  • I grew up in the 50's and 60's, so my dad and mom were always watching Lawrence Welk, Jackie Gleason show, Mitch Miller, so I listened to all of the old standards. My dad loved it all, but Jim Reeves was always his favorite, and any time I wish to go down memory lane I just youi tube Jim for my dad.
