Yikes! $375 for the kit?!? Given, it's better than paying a dealership $1000 or more to do it, or paying even more to replace the whole head, but still, that's a hefty chunk o' change for a tool kit, a bottle of red Loctite, and some steel sleeves. I wonder if any places rent out the kit and you can buy the insert sleeves seperately...? And was the spark plug blowout issue common on '92-'97 Crown Vics, or just the later '98+ models?

does this work on an 1998 ford explorer SOHC sport?

@fmac524 Thanks to your video, I was able to come up with an idea, I bought a boring kit for 216 pesos here in Mexico, I then welded a 1/2" x 12' ratchet extension to the boring tool. The process was not as clean and pristine as your video shows, I was able to get it done for just under $30 dls.... My 2001 expedition now has a good bill of health... Thanks!!

Hey an I rent that kit from you? I could sing the blues and tell you how bad my life is and tell you how i really appreciate your help. The kit cost too much and well I just don't have the $.

At first I thought he said he was gonna use the "time circut" like as if he was Doc Brown. Then I realized it was "Time Sert kit" haha
Thank you so much for this video, Dave. It allowed me to make this repair without incident. I have only a limited knowledge of mechanics. My 2001Ford Expedition blew the #3 spark plug. I have had 6 Ford vehicles in the past 12 years from the same dealer in Van Nuys, Ca. They offered me a "good customer rate" of $2800.00 to replace the head. My local shop wanted $1800.00. I am struggling to make ends meet as it is. You and Time Sert saved me. Thank you, again.

Hello rockkkkher,
They said to "place Lock-tite around the middle of the insert". Their instructions show a pic of less Lock-tite than I put (their pic showed on one thread). I think that this is enough given that they have a system that locks the insert into the threaded hole independant of the thread locker. The torque spec comes from Time sert and is the torque of driving the insert into the head. I did not see a spec for the spark plug itself. I have always driven plugs by feel anyway
