This is a somewhat jumpy video of my version of the LED Bargraph shown on http://www.evconvert.com/article/led-bargraph-battery-monitor.

  • any one know how to charge a 12 battery s? i am try to build a electric car with 12 batteries total 120 volts . but how i do charge ??? can any one help me , where i get the parts

  • Twelve 12 volt batteries in series would be of course 144 volts, "niminal". With the proper charger you can charge a series string of batteries. One problem that occurs is that the batteries eventually get out of balance, so you need to have some sort of Battery Management System or a way to equalize them. Another way is to use individual chargers for each battery.

You need to do some internet searching on this and learn more. Check out the Electric Vehicle Discusson List

  • Nice implementation, Dave. Much cleaner installation than mine! :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but has this become your "most looked at" gauge? I tend to monitor my bargraph more than amps/volts.

  • Thank you for the compliments. Yes I spend a lot of time scanning the Battery Monitor gauge, just to be sure the pack is healthy. I just returned batteries 3 and 7 as they were getting worse and worse.

I still do look at Volts and Amps as I am still tryting to determine the best performance I can get.

I can't even imagine having 80 Li cells and trying to make sure that they are healthy. I guess that is why a real BMS is needed for Li! ô¿ô

  • can you tell me the dimensions of the graph , I'm going to need one myself and I want to see where I can put it

    thanks

  • Yes , I agree, looks like I've got a weak battery. That is exactly what this monitor is made for.

  • that is cool. It's a nice setup. now you can monitor your batteries while you drive. Thanks for posting. Ernie

  • Nice job Dave, looks like #7 is dipping more than the rest.

  • No, unfortunately I have no reliable place to charge. Also I take the train 3 days a week. It would make a nice station car if there was charging at the station and if it wouldn't get vandalized...
