Iníon an Phailitínigh
Agus lá breá aoibhinn margaidh is mé ag gabháil trí Bhaile an tSíoda,
rai tai al de didil rai tai fold de didil rai tai al de didil aer ai ó
cé chasfaí ins an tslí orm ach iníon an Phailitínigh
rai tai...
Ó d'fhiosraigh sí fios m'ainme nó an baile óna mbíonn tú
nó an dtiocfá féin abhaile liomsa seal go dtí mo mhuintir.
Is é dúirt gur buachaill greanta mé a chónaíonn i nGóilíní
rai tai...
Do dhruideas síos ina haice siúd is do thugas di cúpla póigin.
rai tai...
Is má théimse féin ahbaile leat an bhfaighidh mé thú leósadh?
rai tai...
Is é dúirt sí, "Ná bíodh eagla ort, tar liom is míle fáilte.
Gheobhaidh tú le toil m'athar mé is gan focal ó mo mháithrin.
Gheobhaidh tú stoc is talamh liom is mairfaimid go sásta.
rai tai...
"Is má thréigeann tú an tAifreann do gheobhaidh tú mé le pósadh.
rai tai...
Mar a dhein mo mhuintir romhamsa is a maireann chuile beo acu.
rai tai...
Gheobhaidh tú ór is airgead is talamh gan aon chíos liom.
Agus litir ón Ministir Oliver go bhfuil m'athair caite críonna.
Is cailín deas ag taisteal leat más mian leat Pailitíneach."
rai tai...

ha... I'm a direct descendant of the Palatinates...The old family stories of a right difficult time fitting in between the English and the native Gaels. Wasn't long before the forebearers married into both but interesting how the stories have remained in the family right up till now. Queen Anne's protestant plantation plans somewhat failed, we're now Catholic from Lutheran and Methodist background and we all play Irish trad instruments not to mention a few that are brilliant Sean-nos singers.

My native city of Cork was a fine and famous place before Sean O Se began to sing - it is even finer and more famous now - thanks to the wonderful contribution this school teacher from Bantry has made to the life and culture of the city on the banks of my own lovely Lee.

Inion an Phailitinigh
is translated as the Palatine's daughter . The Palatines came to Ireland from western Germany in the 17th century and settled in the Co Limerick . Long since assimilated many of their names remain such as Switzer , Boveniser and Hedermann . The song is about a local Irish lad and a Palatine's daughter's courtship

Níor tharla rud ar nós sin riamh nuair a bhíos ar an mbus timpeall na cathrach... ach tá dóchas orm go dtarlóidh i gceann na haimseartha!
