Hi, I'm Usheema Thomas and I'm a CVS pharmacist. You've probably experienced a sunburn some time or another and they're never pleasant. Although they are uncomfortable, there are a few things you can do to ease the pain.
Try taking a cool bath or shower, or placing wet, cold washcloths on the burn. Avoid products that contain benzocaine, lidocaine, or petroleum. If blisters are present, dry bandages may help prevent infection. If your skin is not blistering, moisturizing cream may be applied to relieve discomfort. Over-the-counter medications, like ibuprofen, may help to relieve pain caused by the sunburn. Be sure to call your doctor if these remedies don't seem to be working or if you have a fever, dizziness, fluid-filled blisters or vision problems.
These tips will help you ease the pain if you do get a sunburn. Most importantly, always try to avoid a sunburn by wearing plenty of sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun. If you have any questions about specific things you can use to relieve sunburn pain, talk to your CVS pharmacist. We're here to help.
