@FionaDaAwesomest - That's easy. If you don't recognize the song, look at the title. If that doesn't tell you what this is, read the description below the video. If you are still uncertain as to what this is, based on those easy-to-find answers, you might consider reading the entirety of the posted comment thread below the video. If after all of that, you STILL don't know what this is, you probably shouldn't be on the internet asking silly questions anyway.

@FionaDaAwesomest - Allow me to explain. If you aren't familiar with Steve Martin's early stand-up career, his performance as Maxwell Edison is directly evocative to such performances... combining Martins satirical impersonation of the typical comedian of the time with a tacky lounge singer. This was the Steve that people knew at the time. You can hear a similar performances in his song "King Tut." And I'm sorry about the previous jerky response. I've just gotten used to gunning down trolls.

I can't believe people thought this was funny.

@Koventry Nah, no explanation required. It's Steve Martin. LOL.
-
@Koventry I think the problem is that too many people are trying to "get something" from this when there is nothing to get. It's simply a trippy slop fest of retardation, and that makes it great.

@Koventry is it wrong to call this a "fun" movie? not comical but something that is fun to watch?
Honestly, if no one here gets this or ANY of the covers in the movie, they're either too young (the film came out in 1978) or they simply hasn't seen it. Granted, you MAY have to tie yourself to a chair the first two times you watch it, but I guarantee it'll settle in your brain for the rest of your life. And MOST of the covers aren't bad, especially "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", Earth, Wind and Fire's cover of "Got to Get You Into My Life" and Aerosmith's version of "Come Together".

@Koventry - Well said. If I may, I'd like to add to your point. There are also people who "got" the performances in this film that never previously "got" them when originally performed by the Beatles. My wife, for instance, never paid much attention to the song "Get Back" when sung by the Beatles, but REALLY enjoyed the inherent pop-poetry of the lyrics when sung by Billy Preston.

@omgnumbersandletters - In the movie, Dr Maxwell Edison is converting people to the new world order under an organization called FVB.
