Housefire in Whiteford Twp. on Summerfield Road

WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP -- A man who was pulled from his burning home on Summerfield Rd. was in critical condition today with burns over 50 percent of his body, police said.
Authorities identified the victim as Daniel Bucher, who was rushed to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. He reportedly suffered third-degree burns on more than half his body and is in the intensive care unit.
Tom Redmond, a member of the Monroe County Fire Investigation team, said the fire was intentionally set. Mr. Redmond said prior to the fire, Mr. Bucher reportedly made a phone call Monday night and threatened to harm himself by setting the house on fire.
This morning the fire flared up again and destroyed the house between School and Samaria Rds. The Whiteford Township Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the blaze with assistance from Bedford Township.
"This one was really rolling," said Lt. Matt Brenke. "It was burning everywhere."
