A video I wrote, directed and narrated for Meteor Crater, in 1984. No longer available, it holds up pretty well, despite conversion from VHS. Some of the science has since been updated.
Good show for a shoestring budget in the pre-digital era. Leonard Wickberg III and I did all the effects ourselves with art cards, paintings, an old plumbicon camera, a milk tank and a luminance keyer. It was really fun.
Won 3rd place in the JVC Professional Video corporate category in 1985, behind CitiCorp (now Citigroup) and Merrill-Lynch.
When I accepted the JVC award in New York City, I said of the three top finishers, "We have here a world class brokerage firm, a world class bank, and a world class hole in the ground." Now that the first two finishers are smoking holes in the ground, Meteor Crater endures.
Wild West Productions in Flagstaff no longer exists; there is a different company by that name in Texas. Leonard Wikberg III now runs Science Data (http://www.sciencedata.net/) and creates wonderful digital effects for international clients.
hey, that's a lot a fun. Good information. I can appreciate the effects - I made videos in the mid 80s. you had a good camera, that's for sure. Dissolves were a bitch to do, and you have a lot more in this. I think the thing I took away from the 80's is that synth music is cheesy, doesn't hold the test of time well. The rest does fine.
