Trailer for the video of the Sparring Sets event held at the 9th All China Games Wushu Competition in 2001.

This disc features professional chinese athlete men and women competing in two or three person groups in men's sparring sets and women's sparring sets using either emptyhand vs emptyhand or weapons vs weapons (or sometimes weapon vs emptyhand!) note: this is NOT free sparring!

Some of the action is pretty amazing, as you can see. Not to be missed.

  • In wushu, is all sparring staged demos?

  • there are two 'branches' of wushu: 'taolu' and 'sanda' sanda (aka Sanshou) is free sparring with the gloves/pads, etc. taolu is choreographed forms, meant to demonstrate technique. The sparring sets here are choreographed ones that are part of a taolu competition.

  • so there really isnt any real sparring??

  • did you miss the previous response about Sanda and Taolu?

  • oh... never mind, now i see what you meant &now i feel rather stupid

  • np!

  • @devilnero02 If you fought someone doing that shit, how would you react? Yes, this is choreographed fighting, but they're actually performing rather complex attacks which can be incorporated into a legit fight.

  • @aaronjie you used sanda didnt you

  • @devilnero02 wushu is a form of acrobatics

  • Is wushu a form of self-defence or only a form of acrobatics?
