  • Now, if the TL11 was still a production engine today, you would have all the looney lefty do-gooders joining hands and singing cum-by-ya and moaning about global warming (in the summer months) and climate change (in the winter months) but never mind them, what fun would all have driving the Chariots of today! xx

  • Me thinks someone has "flicked the ignition switch" here! Remember, Leyland TL11's loved working hard. Poncing around town was not their game. The chase of the Motorway was what they liked and this fine clip shows what the TL11 could acheive. Tickle them up the motorway, full bore and they were in heaven.

  • That's the benefit of no speed limiter. I'd rather ride on an older one any day. I take no notice of the stupid sheep who think anything old must be crap

  • It is human nature, Why every 1 prefer a new/modern bus/coach, than ride/drive an old bus. Passengers are spoilt 2day with airconditioning, Toilets, Video, Double glasing, Flat floor Kneeling buses etc etc. A driver in 2day's bus/coach av got ABS, Power Steering, Fully automatic transmission, Easy Peasy. Old buses have a 4 speed manual crashbox, No power steering, No heaters, Vacueam airbrakes. No seatbelts. Lots of free ventalation. Noisey cabs. Along with the usual whines & wrattles. Bless em

You are of course entitled to your comments. I too work (casually) for a PSV operator. Given the choice, why is it drivers at my place would sooner choose the newer vehicle over a 'well maintained' 20 year old one, and the same with the passengers? Why is it that the brakes on an older 20 year old vehicle are no match for the modern retarder assisted brakes of a Volvo B12M for example?

  • @daveb0789 this is the biggest lot of horse shit I've ever read. A properly maintained, and MOT'd vehicle is no less safe than a brand new one. I work for a well known very large UK bus operator, and quite honestly the 1/2/3 year old £200,000 per bus rubbish we run now, isn't anywhere near the high quality of the old stuff we used to have.

  • damn right. id feel comfortable on a coach doing 80 no matter what age it is. where i live near sheffield. stagecoach chesterfield have volvo jonckheeres that do 70mph and they are service buses

  • Law is about to be changed so all psv's have the same speed limit - 65 mph.

  • @daveb0789 Oh bug off.

  • As long as the vehile is maintained and has the relevant mot there is no problem, whatever age the vehicle
