  • Have you ever had any blind, partly blind or deaf-blind students in any of your classes, Kathy? What sort of assistive technology would you use for those kids?

  • @1958boomergirl - yes, It is hard to say not knowing the cog. ability of the student but I would start with light boards and light tables for students who have vision difficulties, also look into document camera which could enlarge pages in a book... for deaf- blind students maybe try switch toys that vibrate or have different sensory tops. Thanks for checing the video. Blessings

  • These are great! But i have a question that i hope you can answer... you said you only had one deaf student, does he/she ALSO have mental of intellectual disability? I ask because in my school district they had the deaf students in their own classrooms. I dont know how it is in your district, i was just wondering. Great assistive technology!! Love it! I am taking an class on assistive technology this summer at my university, thats how i came across your video.

  • That's a good question. Yes the child who was in my classroom who was deaf also had severe/profound cog. delays. Her needs were best met in a self contained classroom like mine. However, other students in the district who are deaf and of "average" cog. functioning attend gen ed. classes with an interpreter or resource support. Thanks for the comments. If you get a chance check out a new device called a Dynovox! It is so cool.

  • nice...

  • This is great. As a college student preparing to go into student teaching, this was extremely helpful for me! Thanks for the ideas!

  • Thank you for letting us into your classroom.

  • Is your son a Neuroypical?

  • you're great teachers. an AAC is very important for communication disabled children. as a speech-language pathologist, i'm so impress coz, our clinic are also lacking of that technology. yet, we need a lot more for training and equiped ourselves using the tools. Good for you and you children.
