@salfordsredarmy the themes in the song are pretty universal, dude. It can be about any poverty-stricken, bombed out city. Stop being so chauvinistic.

Never heard such bulls**t in my life. This song was written by a man born and bred in Salford of Scottish parentage, he wasn't a Scotsman though. And the song is clearly about Salford, it even says in the original 'smelled a Spring on the SALFORD wind', but had to be changed because Salford Council thought it brough bad press to the town and therefore is now 'smelled a Spring on the smokey wind'.
