'The Namesake' is a great book (written by Jhumpa Lahiri) but it is also a great film with an amazing soundtrack (written by Nitin Sawhney). I made this video after seeing something really similar on youtube, but it got deleted. This video focuses more on the life and love of Ashima instead of Gogol, which to me is more true to the book. I hope you enjoy!

  • Exactly ! The movie is all about the life of Ashima, how she comes to a completely foreign land and starts a family, and meanwhile learns " to love and know her husband ". I've given a great amount of thought on why the novel is called The Namesake, when Gogol is a very small part of it. What I've been able to infer is that it is about the story of our parents. It's our parents who give us our names, our primary identity. It lets us see what our parents went through while raising us.
