You'll never totally enjoy dungeons until you get the Mark and Recall spell, which is why SOME points in Intelligence is useful.

I think you took the wrong entrance to Castle Faallem I am sure it has a normal front door like other castles. I think you went through a back door!

Generally, dungeons give you lots of loot. You should see the few hundred paid by a quest giver as "icing on the cake". If the only time you are going to go to a dungeon is "for yourself" then you will say no to so many quests it will be impossible to finish the main quest.
