Please notice how hoping marks a new scentence. Hoping is the active form of "I had hope". Notice also how the true mistake of the other commentator was the lack of a comma after "comment". To further prove my semantics endeavour, please consider that his hope is what gives him will to search.

Either "I began the search" or "hoping the search will be".
