Nice one.
Ca + 2H2O ---> Ca(OH)2 + H2

Cool =P

it fizzles if you put a drop of water onto the calcium and hydrochloric acid. I love doing lab experiments in chemistry!

does the amount of hydrogen change with higher temperature of water???
-
@Mrpantymelt They make calcium by melting CaCl2 which requires a pretty high temp (about 800 C) and then electrolysis. I don't know how they melt it but it makes it costly. If you want to make H2, there are better ways.
-
too bad calcium is so expensive
-
Basic physics. If a reaction releases energy, the opposite reaction needs energy. And due to the second law of thermodynamics the net effect will never be an energy gain.
So, it's not not done because it's expensive, but because you don't get anything out of it. Calcium does not exist in pure form in nature because it immediately reacts with other elements. To get Ca in metallic form you have to expend quite an amount of energy.

is it possible to produce hydrogen like this and then reclaim the calcium without using hydrogen.. why not make fuel this way, is it too expensive.
-
Lol the cylinder graduated
-
if u ate that wouldu turn into a tank 0.o???
just like pure aluminum in water.
Do you know if it is possible to reclaim the calcium and do it again like aluminum.

the metal reacts with the water producing pure hydrogen gas.
