U.S. President Barack Obama says re-elected Afghan President Hamid Karzai must write a "new chapter" in his nation's history by forging a stronger government not riddled by corruption. The U.S. joined Britain, other allies and the United Nations in offering their congratulations to Mr. Karzai. His victory came only after an election marred by allegations of widespread fraud.
