Although this is where EJ landed most of his biggest hits and well known songs, this is just the beginning of his 40-year career. Most people (myself included) consider this time to be the best of Elton John; we can call it "the era of classic Elton John."

Albums/Songs:

Elton John - Your Song
Madman Across the Water - Tiny Dancer
Honky Chateau - Rocket Man
Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player - Teacher I Need You
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Funeral For a Friend, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting
Caribou - Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Pinball Wizard
Captain Fantastic & Brown Dirt Cowboy - Someone Saved My Life Tonight

Some Notes:

When making this series I forgot to add a song from Tumbleweed Connection, which is actually a huge gap because it represents EJ before he went into pop starting in 1973 (with the Don't Shoot Me album). A sample (Burn Down The Mission) is in the 4th video.

"Pinball Wizard" was actually a cover of The Who but it is one of the rare covers that is just as good if not better than the original so it deserves a spot here.

Personal Favorite - "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" maybe not his most famous, but in my opinion, it is a combination of the best lyrical and musical composition ever. It is extended in this video (longest excerpt).

It will take another few days to put up the rest of the series, it takes a long time to compile the best songs. 4/30/10 I will try to add Part 2, 5/1 I will have Part 3 and 5/2 I will have Part 4.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elton John was without question one of the biggest talents in the music industry and still remains a legend today. His career kept his name at the top of the chart throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Since there are no compilations of Elton John on You Tube I made it my goal to select the best of his music (in my opinion) and build a complete series that includes songs from all of his 70s, 80s, and a few of his 90s albums. There are MANY songs not included but this is just impossible to do given the fact that he was producing 1 or 2 albums each year and was coming up with the songs in a few hours. He has some 500+ songs. While I am including many of his most famous songs and greatest hits, I recognize that his exquisite piano playing also made his music so listenable and will include as many features as possible. I am also trying to touch on his more obscure side - the side of him that is never played on the radio - without losing a sense of his style and talent. This way, even people who were fans of EJ back in the day can appreciate the versatility of his music that extends way beyond "Your Song", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Levon" , and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." I have posted 4 series: Part 1: 1970-1976, Part 2: 1976 - 1982, Part 3: 1982-1989, and Part 4: 90s and obscurities.

  • Let's not forget to mention Bernie Taupin! The wrote and co-wrote many, many of Elton's greatest songs! Still the world and more precisely my world would not be the same without Elton John! He's simply amazing! <3

  • fuck marah . do u remember a guy named elvis?

  • Totally FUCKIN' awesome. Mariah may be the most sold female artist of all time(But Elton's among the 5) I think he's long surpassed Elvis and Beatles for radio friendly hits So that puts him in a tie with McCartney and Madonna.(Madonna's had over 80 hit singles and I know elton's had atleast maybe 75-85 and I'm saying at least) He may still chart at 63(hey the Eagles still are) Eagles and FM have had maybe 50-60 hit singles(fleetwood mac) and Janet, Mariah, Aretha and Stevie well over 50 hits
