Benitez fell short of greatness? Really? Dont tell that to Cervantes, Villa, Petronelli, Curry, Shields, Palomino, Turner, Ranzany, Hope, Santos, Duran and Whittaker. Not to mention that he still holds the record for being the youngest world champion in boxing history at the tender age of 17. The best of all time? No. Theres no argument here. But saying he was short of greatness isn't accurate, to say the least. Pacman and mayweather arguably the best p4p fighters .....cont......
now they both aint got no more money spend it all, duran and benitez,i visited benitez in rico and he living on government assistance program aint that something.
He really was'nt a buddy buddy type. One really can't criticize an athlete ( boxer especially) for having the qualities that will make him succesful their chosen sport.
I was 19, and saw the 1st Leonard Duran fight on close circuit, Miami Beach Convention Center. There was a thick wave of electricity in the air, like if one was at the actual fight !!
@6400az Yeah Duran was never a post fight hugger, lol! Him and Hagler almost came to blows after their fight, and he cursed and spat at Leonard after their 1st fight, and that was after he WON!
Say anything about Duran, but he is as REAL as they come. He's not a sore loser , but hates to lose. He's just not the " buddy buddy" lets go have a beer type of guy.
............didn't accomplish what Benitez did before the age of 25.

Howard sucked, always did, biased ass. Duran was king, Benitez was talented but fell short of greatness.
