I'm also a new rider but I did get a leather jacket. The guy at the store told me the same thing about leather. I still got a leather jacket its a icon jacket its a MERC HERO LEATHER. It has the Spin armor, shoulder, and I elbow armor, plus has great ventilation. And it comes in like 5 different colors I got the white and gray so id stand out on the road.

I am getting me a leather jacket for the winter, but right now it is summer and it is already too hot for my mesh jacket. Hell if I had a leather, I am sure I would be dead from heat stroke right about now.

Do you think that jacket will be good for the summer if you take the liner out?

Yes I am using it now and it is cool but man it does get hot. :( No matter what jacket you have on, once it hits 90 degrees, it gets hot in that gear.

Most jackets only have that protective foam stuff on the back. you have to buy the hard armor and switch it out with the foam armor

Yeah you right it is hot as hell. Thats why I leave my jacket unzip.

If you're looking for a good leather jacket, try ICON, I like that it has a full liner, with sleeves, not just a vest liner. I have a Teknic Violator Jacket, and I love it, it feels very protective tha armor makes you feel very secure. The Teknic Violator retails for around $400, but I was able to find a brand new one on ebay for 130$, got an amazing deal on it. The Violator jacket has a whole lot of vents, and probably the best armor on the market. Do a search on youtube, to see a review.
