www.EmploymentCrossing.com Several hundred construction and transit workers, machinists, teachers and other labor unionists railed against the U.S. government's proposed bailout of Wall Street on Thursday, in a protest steps from the New York Stock Exchange, according to Reuters. Union leaders criticized a $700 billion plan aimed at rescuing the credit markets by relieving financial institutions of distressed debt. "The Bush administration wants us to pay the freight for a Wall Street bailout that does not even begin to address the roots of our crisis," said AFL-CIO National President John Sweeney. "We want our tax dollars used to provide a hand up for the millions of working people who live on Main Street and not a handout to a privileged band of overpaid executives." Signs read "No Blank Checks for Wall Street" and "Our Hard-Earned Pensions Are Not Up For Grabs." Protesters cheered repeated calls for the government to spend money on education, health care and housing as freely and readily as it was proposing to do for Wall Street. "We know that the economic situation has to be solved. But we want a responsible rescue, not an opportunistic bailout," said United Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten. "[If] there should be accountability for the teachers, then there should be accountability for Wall Street," he said.

thinking like that is one of the reasons this country is in the pathetic shape it's in. outsourcing and hiring illegals only gets the big man owners rich and screws everybody else, but don't worry because eventually you will get your quick buck, but in the long run it will screw you.

The reason the unions are upset is that they think government handouts should only go to them.
I think the banks should go under.

Government interference in the free interactions of people(the market) is ALWAYS an attempt to cheat reality. Insane and childish. It's a game of let's pretend. Let's pretend that everyone has earned and can afford a house. Let's pretend that everyone is equally credit worthy. Let's take money from some people and give it to others so we all can pretend that they are prosperous.
You can fool reality only for so long. Then it all comes crashing down. Reality always wins. Game Over.

Why should I hire a union worker (I am speaking about tradesman) to work for me, when I can hire an illegal immigrant so much cheaper. Union men are in fantasyland.

dont bail anything out. corporate greed and peasents living beyond their means caused the problem. let them bail themselves out. use the money to create businesses that are run by people instead of robots and computers and then people will have good paying jobs and will be able to spend. that is the key to a stable economy.
