  • @Longtrangdukich ...Actually, the modern U.S. Army Rangers trace their origin back to the French and Indian War (1754-1763) and not the War of Idependence. It was Maj. Robert Rogers, who formed Rogers' Rangers in 1756 from nine companies of American colonials to fight for the British that the modern Rangers acknowledge as their birth unit. In fact, Maj. Rogers drew up the 19 Standing Orders for Ranger tactics that are still recognized and utilized by Rangers to this day.

  • what horrible and awesome memories some of these men must have.

  • these guys went hard in the paint!!!

  • Britain won a similar war in Malaya in 1950-55 using the SAS . Perhaps a lot of their expert jungle warfare tactics may have been shared with American special forces as there are many similarities between LRRP operations and the SAS.

Look up Malayan Emergency and SAS Malaya

  • The Rangers Lineage & History go back way before WW I. The LRRP's were started in Germany in the late 50's then Recondo started in the early 60's. The first ones in Vietnam (not SF) to run LRRP missions were the 173rd Abn Bde (Sep) LRRP's in Jun of 1965.

  • And don´t forget the missions of these guys: five/six days walking carefully, taking info, preparing ambushes, rescuing pilots, the friendly USAF fire, the "Hanoi hotel" (POW), the traps,... every time behing enemy lines.

    Respect.

  • those are LRS-D's not LRRPS but you are right in their origin and they started out of the 101st during vietnam

  • Heck! Running with a 80 to 100 pound rucksack for seven miles everyday to cualify! You damn right that is a special mother! Just finishing that run goes to show how much heart these guys had! I salute you all!

  • Respect to the LRRP !

    greetings from Danish LRSC
