Mariette Clermont Inc. is a furniture retailer that has been present on the Montreal scene since the early fifties. The Laval furniture store, with adjacent warehouse, was opened in 1975. The Downtown Montreal store, on De Maisonneuve West, at University St, was opened in 1988. The original store was on what has become Plaza St-Hubert. It carried, at time, both appliances and furniture. That branch was closed and replaced by the Downtown store. The company now carries only contemporary modern design furniture.
The furniture on display in the stores is mostly of contemporary European design, the major part being of Italian design. The buyer travels frequently to Milan, Cologne and other capitals to select trendy, fashionable and beautiful pieces of furniture from the best European or Italian designers and manufacturers. Some living room furniture is made in Canada by Bugatti (Montreal) or Williams (Ste-Hyacinthe, Qc).

The finishes that are in fashion today are the wenge (dark brown) and European walnut finishes, white and black lacquer finishes are also making a comeback. Glass and metal tables are also very popular.
