  • swell love it thanks so much for positing this song

  • Margaret told me that life on the road with Goodman's orchestra was hard. She quit Goodman for her own radio show, "Pretty Peggy Pepper" sponsored by Dr. Pepper which show cased her lovely voice and meant less travel. She later settled down with Harry, taught school and raised a fine family of musicians in Connecticut.

Margaret was only with Goodman for a short time but I have a few more recordings on tape. I'll gladly share if I can format them digitally.

  • @Luap317

You must be very proud to have such a wonderful singer in your bloodline.

Must be of Irish descent with a name like McCravy.

Thank you for the info on her. It is much appreciated.

  • Lovely to listen to a song which was recorded when I was just 28 days old !!

Thank you for sharing this great post.

  • It's lovely !

  • Recorded on December 30, 1936., while During this period, Benny was searching for a "permanent" female vocalist (Betty Van didn't work out, either). He finally found her, in all places, in Meyer {Jeff} Alexander's "Camel Swing Chorus" on his "CAMEL CARAVAN" radio show in August 1937...Martha Tilton.

  • Her stage name was McCrae but her real name was Margaret McCravy and she was a cousin of mine. She was born in Laurens, SC and graduated from Furman. Margaret's two older brothers were Frank and James McCravy who were recording artists in the 1920's and 30's. She married Harry Simone, the arranger for Fred Warring who is remember for his song "The Little Drummer Boy". Margaret told me that Benny was difficult to work with as he was such a perfectionist.

  • Margaret McCrae has a nice voice. Too bad there are not more of her recordings on YouTube. Thanks for this one!

  • Great stuff I have some of Benny's recordings - Love swing.

    Regards

    Richard :)
