Look at Iraq - was there a terrorist base there? Wasn't Saddam running a secular society - the complete opposite of the radical Islam that extremists endorse? Iraq was a mistake that made Afghanistan more difficult to win, and limited the range of military options of the US and UK in other theatres.

Joani Kelly, we haven't made progress, unless you count 30K+ Iraqi civilian deaths as progress, then yes, we have done well.
