  • I was actually here just last Friday! I'd never been to Portugal before, never mind Lisbon, and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos (as they call this landmark in Portuguese) was stunning!

    The last time I was in Lisbon prior to February 2007 was sometime in 1977 or 1978 when I was barely in primary school. I don't think the Monument was built back then.

  • I thought the Monument was built in 1960 (that's what it says in my guidebooks anyway; it was built partly to coincide with the 500th anniversary of Prince Henry the Navigator's death in 1460).
