That's actually not true, its not HARD to get a ride along. It's as easy as showing up to a C.H.P. substation looking squared away (ripped jeans and t-shirt not a good idea) and showing your interest in the career. Make contact with an officer and they will set a date for you. However, you said it was hard and i respect that, so it may vary from station to station. :)
It's really not hard to ride along at all. If you ever see CHP at an Open House or event just talk to the guy and they will hook you up. I am 16 and I got invited to ride along. Never took up the offer. Still have the officer card though.
For one, you have to be 20 or so to ride in a CHP ride along. And two, its very hard to get in. Theres not just a big sign on their web site saying "Ride along here!". You'd have to call them, or go to a station and request a form.
P.S.
Obviously im wanting to be a CHP officer, its how i know this =).
