One of my favorites.

Deep in the night, I woke: she, near me, held
A volume of the Poets of her land:
There to herself, all in low tones, she read:

'Now sleeps the crimson petal now the white;
Nor waves the cypress in the palace walk;
Nor winks the gold fin in the porphyry font:
The fire-fly wakens: waken thou with me.

Now droops the milkwhite peacock like a ghost,
And like a ghost she glimmers on to me.

Now lies the earth all Danae to the stars,
And all thy heart lies open unto me.

Now slides the silent meteor on, and leaves
A shining furrow, all thy thoughts in me.

Now folds the lily all her sweetness up,
And slips into the bosom of the lake:
So fold thyself, my dearest, thou, and slip
Into my bosom and be lost in me.'

  • This was a somber but fine poem, and well recited. I don't have an affinity for poetry or prose, but I can appreciate this to a modest degree.

    I don't understand just why nearly ALL the comments were hidden as 'received too many negative votes'.

    I clicked 'show' on all of them. Saw nothing objectionable. So I thumbs-upped all of them.

    Vote this comment down if you think I was wrong to do that...or votebot...whatever floats your boat I suppose.

  • @IrwinJohnFinster I got hit by a nasty troll a while back, that's why the comments and ratings are screwed up. Thanks for helping, though. :)

  • This is Beautiful.

  • @yasminevinck Thank-you :)
