The song in the manga IS from an actual song known as Elven Song.
Get this. The anime was adapted from the manga. Elfen Lied means Elven Song. Elven Song was replaced by Lilium in the anime.
And there IS an Elven Song in real life, composed by the same person who composed Lilium. Hugo Wolf.

The song is called "Cantus" and is sung by a different artist on an album called "Celtic Women, Voices of Song." It is a religious song about Mary and Jesus. Okay, honestly, I don't remember the name of the song. It was ripped from one of my mom's Celtic cds. If it helps, its a chrismas song.
