  • Rich: Thanks for your time putting this together for us to see. Do you think if you fill the downspouts with crushed cans it would restrict the airflow more than the gain you would get from the increased mass? I like the idea of downspouts over the cans only design. If downspouts heaters are 10% less efficent you could just build it 10% larger. On your other video do you loose much heat with the gutter manifold exposed to cold temps? Does it matter which way the cans go in except for the top can

  • @navajopa31 hi you could try crushed cans i got the best heat out of the downspout when i tested off site in full morning sun my cans are upright in the spouts but i think just about any way will work as long as there is mass and seal box and a path full the hot air to flow i dont get enough sun to say how well they work long term but they are other vids where people get good sun good luck rich

  • Im very happy that you make these vids...i know about the lack of sunshine...i never had seasonal depression but i think i know what it feels like....

I made one of the can stoves including the paint can idea...great idea and works even better!

  • the stoves are cool but the winter has been a bad one tons of snow and clouds but spring is near

  • I had the same problem, not too many sunny days here i Sudbury , Ontario. Mine works great too.

  • I was wondering what kind of temps you got on non-sunny days. Is it pretty much useless in the freezing cold without sun?

  • may I suggest trying a mirror to reflect the sun towards you can heater.

  • Good results. Good to hear from you Rich.

  • Thanks for the information. I have been collecting material to build a heater. Hope to have one up and ready by next fall.

  • Awsome! Keep the updates coming! I'm hoping to build one soon largly based on youtube videos so thenks a lot for sharing!

  • Good to see your Video Rich.

I was wondering what the temp rise in your house was on that trial?

I can net about 3 degrees without my yet to be built can heaters, but boy oh boy I sure have just about all the materials. I found some great 24 volt fans on ebay, they will run at 12 volts, if anyone wants the link, message me @ my user name here. There German made brushless giant server fans new and no I am not selling them.

Just a FYI they are EBM Papst R1G280-AE45-52 fan & motor draws 90 watts
