I am an Italian. My friends joke with me about being a Wop or a Dago everyday. Do I feel offended? Sometimes.

I take the same approach as Bill Cosby. There are black people and there are niggers.

I say the word. It is just a word and I feel as long as there is no hate hate or malice when I say it, there is no harm.

No one(black, white, etc.) has a problem on the other hand when people say Cracker and hate on "Whitey".

I believe it's Chris Rock who did the black/nigger joke. You can slice it you want, but once you open Pandora's box w/ the N word. You start trouble. I personally hate terms like cracker, spic, nigger...mainly because I know people can use them in a "joking manner" when they are friends, but as soon as there is a rift they turn into hate words. If you are best friends and that's what you do, that's fine, but respect to not use it to anyone on the street is another entirely different issue.

I feel that people are too comfortable with words like those and they are unnecessary. Trying to change the definition and it NEVER works. It hasn't worked in 50 years of commercializing the word. My approach is that there are black people, good and bad. Not "niggers" and black people. Rock's jokes were funny at the time, but they aren't realistic. Like I said if it's a personal choice, that's fine. Not every black person likes or wants the words used and people seem to forget that.

Most of them are not African-Americans. They are not from Africa. Like it or not their race is Negro.

You don't have to be from Africa to be AFRICAN. People migrate. Negroid would be the appropriate term. Your race is based on your ancestors not your current place of birth or nationality. Your race is about your PHYSICAL characteristics. Many people don't understand that and end up saying stupid things like "I am not African I'm black". I've never heard of a Mongoloid (Asian) person coming to America saying I am not Asian I'm yellow. It is stupid.

Jimmy Hendrix, Chuck Berry. Jimmy did more Rock n Roll, go back further to Rockabilly. All the same bloodline? There is a difference between finding the earliest evidence of human life in Africa and finding that life began in Africa. Science and the bible often conflict.

Well spoken. I get depressed when I see an anti intellect bent in America in general but it is very pronounced in the black community. "Keeping it real" keeps it low brow and frankly dumb. Good job Mr. Black! I almost said Mister Charley but that would be me. Just kidding guys put the anger down.

You know, white people really dont give a fuck about being called a cracker or whitey or whatever the fuck it is people call them/us. Were just to proud and arrogant to give a shit. Not that thats a good thing, but still, using the word nigger is WAY more offensive than using the word cracker or whitey or whatever. Its rather obvious for anyone with an IQ above 100. Black people have reasons to feel offended, since - lets face it - being black aint a "hoot" in this world. Being white, is.

Speaking for myself, it's not nearly as important what someone calls me as it is what the intentions were behind what they called me. I'm not black but looking in from the outside, I think the word niggER and the word niggA is very different.  Nigga is generally used in a friendly way. Almost like saying brother. Nigger on the other hand, is rarely used in a kind way. If nigga is used amongst friends and is not intended in a derogatory way, who really cares?

That's the problem. If everyone didn't want certain words used. In America, it would probably progress to the point where it becomes a "thought crime". There are people who get so riled up when someone says, "that's gay." It's sad how everyone is offended by everything nowadays. People can't seem to grasp the concept of people putting the intent behind the word (i.e. malicious intent, endearing intent, etc).
