News highlight - First day of trial for democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, charged with breaking the terms of her house arrest and U Win Tin's appeal to the international community; a press conference of U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and Malaysia's Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah bin Haji Aman; updates of John William Yattaw, the American who secretly swam across Inya Lake, to entered Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's house; and Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Burma.
Success in Burma is impossible until all the parties in dispute--the junta excepted--agree to genuinely cooperate, verifiably decommission their weapons, and do not see liberation and democracy as the channels via which to hold the west to ransom. Like the west does not have the time, money and/or patience to build a 'Central Asian Valhalla', nor does the west have the time, money and/or patience to build a South East Asian Valhalla, on little more than the popularity of Suu Kyi.
