  • Success in Burma is impossible until all the parties in dispute--the junta excepted--agree to genuinely cooperate, verifiably decommission their weapons, and do not see liberation and democracy as the channels via which to hold the west to ransom. Like the west does not have the time, money and/or patience to build a 'Central Asian Valhalla', nor does the west have the time, money and/or patience to build a South East Asian Valhalla, on little more than the popularity of Suu Kyi.
