The film adaptations of these classic Poe short stories starring Vincent Price are pure gems. Do read the stories by Poe at some point to fully appreciate Poe's genius in this particular literary form.

@1rammstein21 you got a point on sweeney todd.. hmm.. perhaps
-
@somberlight Not sure...Secret Window? Sweeney Todd?

@1rammstein21 anyone but burton, that guy isn't able to direct classic, proper horror. he has a strange fixation towards his own "burtonisms" which would ruin the spirit in an instant. depp however, it might work. does any of his work have slow descent to madness?

Vincent Price was Gay !!!! but a Creepy Cool !!!Guy !!!

great story, needs an update. i know no one can replace Vincent Price, trying to think of who to play the part of the characters, how about Johnny Depp as Roderick Usher, Leonardo Dicaprio as Philip Winthrop, Christina Ricci as Madeline Usher, and Anthony Hopkins as Bristol, the butler...probably directed by Tim Burton also.

@TheAlienFan I think removing a house made of stone and then rebuilding it is perfectly possible and has been done. The facade of London Bridge was taken apart, each stone numbered and then reconstructed in Lake Havasu, Arizona. I just wondered if any actual mansions were moved from Europe to America in this way.

@Nothefaceyoubitch I know they can move a house that is made of wood but I have no idea as to how you could move one that is made of stone. Brilliant building I love it. I love his paintings as well : )
God bless Vincent Price,you fine gentleman : )

Being such a fan of the story, and the specific reading I've got of it, the way the movie works around it doesn't thrill me. However, as it stands on its own away from the written version, it's wonderful.

Ok. so is the house supposed to have been transported to North America? Does anybody have any knowledge of any houses being transported and then rebuilt in this way? It's an interesting idea.
This has been available to watch instantly on Netflix. Too bad it will never be remastered (as colorful as these films are).

@SodCorley
IMO, I dunno if I would ever want these movies to ever be remastered or enhanced. I kinda like the the grain and the imperfections of these movies. Kinda like old LP's or old paintings.
I still watch my old vhs copy of Beauty and The Beast by Disney because I cannot stand how the newer remastered versions look. They appear to plasic and bright.
But alas, as long as these films don't get lost in the shuffle I will be happy no matter how they are preserved.

I agree. Eventhough some of the "dead" special effects makeup is dated, the movie still holds a richness flavor to it. It's like watching a painting in motion.
