In celebration of his 90th birthday year, this will be Ravi Shankar's farewell tour to Australia. After 70 years of performing, composing, teaching and writing, the sitar master is the great popular icon of Indian music. His output remains diverse and prolific, from recently debuting his third concerto for sitar and orchestra, to sharing the stage with his daughter, the gifted 28-year-old sitar player Anoushka Shankar.
This was an extreme pleasure for me to see this Master and his daughter Perform. In my research I also found that he had worked with Philip Glass who I worked with as a dancer in Australian Dance Theatre -- excellent company!

there are people whos mere presence is enough to lighten up a troubled planet. pt ravi shankar and anoushka are two such people.God bless them and all who they touch with their gifts.

"the gifted 28-year old sitar player" ? Please spare me. A sitar string pulled by my dog would sound just as melodious. I suppose because my dog is a "gifted" 6-year old Golden Retriever. They are frauds adored by people who do not understand north indian classical music but are impressed by the hoopla that the sly old fox has cultivated over the years. Ask him why he prevented Annapurna Devi (his ex-wife and daughter of Baba, sister of Ali Akbar Khan) from performing? He is a cruel man.
