This is some of the most adorable, sweet and funny choreography I've ever seen.

It's 'The Tale of Two Bad Mice', choreography by Sir Frederick Ashton for the Royal Ballet in 1971 as part of his 'The Tales of Beatrix Potter'.

  • BTW, I visited the great and mystical country of Peru (I went to Macchu Pichu). At the Nacional Theater in Lima, in the lobby, there is a costume belonging to Pavlova that I think is from "La Cachucha" colors red, orange, and green. and it had the smallest waist I have ever seen, I think smaller than Scarlet O' Hara's 14in in GWTW!!!

  • hi Qbendanny - wow - i had no sense of pavlova being particularly petite - slim yes but not necessarily wasp-waisted! envy your travel in south america and Macchu Pichu - i've actually planned trips there but not put one into practice - soon maybe!

  • @nickwallacesmith - It is said that Mae West (Ohh, Come up and see me sometime...) had a very, very, small waist, and we know she had a huge trunk. I was in Macchu Pichu 32 yrs. ago, it was still wild and un-Disney like. It is absolutely magical. The National Theater in Lima is a jewel. The Spanish did several things very well, build Churches, Theaters, and wipe out Indian populations.

  • hi Qbendanny - maybe mae west underwent the air-brush transformation to many did ... often dancers had what were in fact big feet turned into the finest sleekest ones. and i know what you mean about the Disney-ing of places - i went to far out islands in the philippines where you ate by a kerosene lamp on the beach ... and now there's Club Med - BTW, there are still lots of old spanish buildings there - they arrived in the country in 1521 - one city - Vigan - is still as it was now

  • hi Qbendanny - such a gentle sweet sense of comedy - nothing heavy handed or harsh - and i totally (but totally) dislkied M and A - watched it a lot cos it was the only one of a very few things fonteyn was doing at the end of her career but .... ughhh!

  • @nickwallacesmith - Totally, from what I have seen of Ashton's choreography, I believe he had a natural gift for comedy and the farse of human behavior. His Cinderella is untouchable like McMillan's R&J is. Patineurs(I saw Misha and Bujones in it). Sylvia, I love, I LOVE Bithday Offering and I think abstract, plotless, suited him very well. BUT, M&A is soo boring, and his R&J pas' the same. Drama wasn't for him I don't think. I love that personal story with Sir Ken.

  • hi Qbendanny - 'delicious' is the word. and yes, there's a similarity with 'fille' - the gentle way he can inhabit a child's world - there's something is this same trait with the ugly sisters in 'cinderella' don't you think?

i met ashton as a kid in london a few times and once when it was raining and i had a book with me he said 'that book should be wearing a mackintosh' - same sweet fantasy

  • I wish New York City mice were like this. Absolutely delicious, and SOO Ashton who was a truly talented Big child. His "Fille" and use of farm animals is the greatest ever. I had never seen this and LOVE it!! CSB! Gracias! ( I love the selection of the DonQ music) just perfect.
