The climate summit that opened at the United Nations on September 22 is the largest gathering of its kind.
It is seeking to break the deadlock that has prevented 190-nations from agreeing on a climate change pact.
But while world leaders wrangle, the effects of climate change are taking their toll.
Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley travelled to Tasmania, in the remote southeastern corner of Australia, to see how a temperature change of just a few degrees has made a big difference.
It’s not that I don’t know this!
The trouble is that a wetter climate on Australia’s extraordinarily eroded (well, in geological terms, extraordinarily normal) soils will not improve productivity simply because the extremely limited nutrient reserves will be further depleted.
The soils of northern Australia, except the Burdekin Delta and most of the Wet Tropics, have been the most stubborn obstacle to the spread of agriculture ever since it began.

@guodade ...over the entire continent of Australia, you happen to mention the only area which currantly matches a dooms day destruction of earth. Meanwhile the rest of Australia is cooler and wetter, much wetter :o)
The climate activists (BOM, Australian media, Greens etc..) are using these weather conditions to persuased and put meaning to the weather, wanting us to be affraid, the origins of primative religion was that same fear.
The majority won't let Your fears ruin their lives.

@MRMILO57 In southwestern Australia, the rain is anything but back. In fact, rainfall in Perth over the past five years have been 56 percent of the average from 1876 to 1967 and runoff about 3 percent of the average. Although these declines have been known for thirty years, it has taken a very long time to accept that this is 100 percent due to man-made global warming.
The fact is that suburbanites would lose little apart from affordability if every car journey was replaced by mass transit.

@guodade ..The people in all suburbs and the country side, are the majority of the population. So you're asking the majority to totally change their very comfortable, well earned lives to give up all that for a very small inner city fringe manority, so they can have it all their way politically. This is not democracy, this activism being forced onto population (the tax payers).
Lets face facts, the rain is back, the weather is cooler, their is no threat to our lives. Any greenie should move on

@MRMILO57 The reality is that Australia’s outer suburbs cannot tackle climate change because they are afraid of hurting their families. People in large houses with established families would, to be ecologically sustainable, have to give up their three cars for public transport, and to achieve decent public transport would require mass protest that is extremely disruptive to the lives of these working people.

@thedevos1981 ...oh how attitudes are changing towards all this man made climate change con, look at the result for the greens last weekend 27th of Nov 2010, Vic state election.
People are finally waking up to what the greens want to do, recent price hikes in electricity bills have proven this.
The fall of the greens political party has accelerated, the labour government have their green stain and that's why thay lost the state election.

Creationists are 'hell bent' on bringing an end to the world as per the dictates of their bible's 'Revelations' chapter.
We'd all be much better off trying everything for humanity to survive and find ways for our survival to be in harmony with nature. (ie. stopping our negative impacts on the environment).
Creationists want to kill you. They want to kill all humans, in order that they can go to their fictional heaven.
Only science (knowledge) can lead us to long term survival!
