CRT vs LCD

(I have no idea what I said in the middle of the vid)

Standard HP 710 CRT, old.

BenQ 24 inch LCD G2400W 5ms Widescreen 1920x1200

I did a ton of research!! I wanted 2ms response, but they all seemed to have a crap load of input lag, so I went for a 5ms response, but with little or no input lag.
I tried to do various fast moves in the game Warriors Orochi, as you can see.

Problem is that the CRT isn't widescreen, it's difficult to compare precisely.

Also, no dead pixels at all. Not even stuck pixels.
So far, had for over 6months, no issues.

Make sure you have a decent video card.

  • Why do 2ms response type monitors have a lot of input lag? I want an Acer monitor soon but can somebody explain how to test for input lag?

  • @GameYang360 Get a program that has all types of flashing pictures and such. It tests the monitors' lags. Google: Test Input Lag, and the first site has a free testing software.

There are tons of programs for this.

I just hooked both monitors up. One via VGA & one via HDMI. This way I could do a visual comparison. Check out the Youtube video of Quake input lag. That video shows horrible input lag seen without any software.

My monitor is 5ms but I saw no such delay.

    I have crap GPU

  • Even though this monitor is no longer available, I'll provide some feedback..

I have seen some slowing down with this monitor when playing a movie some times, but I think it's due to the video card. It's the old style - AGP or whatever, not the PCI-e, so maybe it just wasn't good enough to run that much data.

And, not 1 dead pixel after so many years & 2 long distance moves!!

(Note: I do not poke at my monitor.)

  • Why do people go to all the trouble of setting up something like this then just doing a naked eye comparison with a video game? Get some damned timer software and compare the timers.

  • @jidar I looked at various programs at the time to see times, and couldn't find a decent one. So I hooked both of them up to the same PC and looked at the difference. You CAN actually see a difference if your setup is done properly. I saw lag with Quake, where an LCD and CRT were matched up together.

Since I did not see even the slightest issue with the LCD when compared to the CRT I thought others would want to know that this model, even though it is a 5ms monitor does not produce lag

  • UPDATE:

I've had this LCD now for almost a year, and still not one dead or stuck pixel, but of course I don't stupidly touch the LCD and am overprotective of what comes near it.

I'm also not on HDMI yet, as my video card doesn't have HDMI output. If I wanted to do HDMI, I'll have to get a new PC, and I don't got cash for that right now. But I wanted to make sure I had HDMI for PS3 or when I get a new PC.

    Great buy.

Hope this helps you in deciding to buy this product.

  • CRT > LCD

  • Yeah... that's wrong. I use an hdmi hookup to my monitor and it displays at 1920x1200, doesn't stop at 1080... hdmi is the same as dvi, it just supports an audio signal as well. You can't always beleive what the best buy salesman tells you.
