An impartial review of the HBX Bonzer 1 10th scale monster truck.

With its obsolete 80s Tamiya-style suspension, plastic wheel bushes, and pitifully weak motor, the Bonzer trundles around, bouncing about like a sort of 4WD King Blackfoot, & it doesn´t at first seem much of a contender...yet there are compelling factors in its favour.

@garagecrap Despite my inbuilt loyalty to all things Tamiya I should tell you that the Bonzer´s not a great option for 2 reasons. 1st, due to its primitive suspension, once you "hot it up" it´ll become fairly uncontrollable, and, 2nd, it´s not very robust. Mine is currently dead because I hit a lamp post with a rear wheel and this pulled the suspension arm back hard enough to wreck the chassis. I´d get a Brontosaurus to "hot up"-same price, much, much better suspension, more robust plastic.

@TheDopeyGamer You can get a brushless car with better suspension (the Redcat Racing Vortex, for example) for the same money.

Ultimately it depends upon how much you value the reliability conferredd upon the Bonzer by its Tamiya heritage. I put a brushless motor in mine eventually (see HBX Brushless Beach Blast) but it´s an expensive way to go about it.

Would you say lthe Bonzer is most solid in it's price? I bought one for my 6 year old for Xmass so hope it won't break to easy? Becaue if it's tough enough I might get one to and "hot it up" :-)
