The Boys Next Door's promo-video for the single 'These Boots Are Made For Walking' (Nancy Sinatra cover - March, 1978), taken from the 1978 compilation LP 'Lethal Weapons' (released by Mushroom record's punk offshoot label Suicide).

I would really like the viewers who were in Melbourne around this time and were a part of that Melbourne punk scene to just come forward and make comment. Tell us your memories... I really want to know

(btw This is my son's name. I'm female.)

Tracy was a lovely guy. Always wore a big black hat. Gentlemanly. Ben W-C was one of the wittiest, smartest people I've ever known: the pick of the crop for mine, Nick Cave...always seemed like a bit of a tosser, to be honest. But he did have talent, as time has shown.

Music was everything. We lived, talked, breathed it. The old rock'n'roll dinosaurs were dead we were overtaking them with brio, iconoclasm, no fear and NO understanding of consequences.

What are we supposed to read with those question marks?

If you have questions. then do some research.

Shouldn't be too hard... you are on the net, after all.

I was 18 in 1978, in Melbourne. I knew Nick, and others What can I say? It was youth. We all lived in shambolic share-houses, never had money, went out all the time. We were all artists of one sort or another; most of us were very political.

And we took a lot of drugs.

Many deaths. Not all died from ODs: Tracy Pew (Boys Next Door, Birthday Party) had an asthma attack in the 80s. Tracy was a lovely guy. Ben Wallace-Crabbe (Laughing Clowns, Upside Down House) fell...there were a lot of suicides.
