WALL•E dies during photo op at D23 Expo

On September 12, during a demonstration of the free-roaming WALL•E character by Walt Disney Imagineering at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, the character went dead, just as two fans were brought in for a photo op. I happened to be filming and caught his final movements, the realization that he had died, and the scramble to get him off stage as gracefully as possible. Note the custom "Buy n Large" logo bag they drape over the poor guy before they haul hi offstage.

Just a malfunction while Imagineering was demonstrating him - he lost power and stopped functioning while doing a photo-op.

My understanding is that they had a lot of problems with the unit, which is why he made very few public appearances and did not become a feature in the theme parks.

@compound32 From the movie - Buy-N-Large was the massive corporation that pretty much dominated the earth. That's their logo on WALL•E's body bag.

No, when they tipped him back on the lift, his head fell back and his arms moved simply from the shift in his center of gravity.
