WASHINGTON - The U.S. Coast Guard released its top 11 video compilation for 2009, highlighting the year's most compelling cases from the work done every day by America's Guardians. The top 11 is a tribute to the Coast Guard's 11 statutory missions (released Dec 16, 2009).

Ten crewman were rescued but two drowned. Amazing that this tug was 100 ft long! It certainly doesn't look it next to that sub.

@knpdyeballarice Navy cant board, Coastie detachments are brought onboard navy ships so they can board. SEMPER PARATUS!!!

@knpdyeballarice That is a Naval ship, yes. But the guys boarding are coasties. Only the coast guard has the authority to board vessels. The navy doesn't have the authority to board other vessels, so they bring coast guard law enforcement detachments with them to board vessels if needed.
