International Soccer was a simple game written for the Commodore 64 in 1983. It was pretty tame but even two decades later, if you play against the machine on an upper level, you get a decent game of soccer. Back then you didn't need photo-realistic graphics and such.

I played Int. Soccer this evening against the comp on the easiest level. I clobbered it 11-0. I had my team wear gold so I could pretend they were the Socceroos, and the comp wore blue, so this was payback for Italy knocking us out of the 2006 World Cup.

I grabbed a few highlights and overlaid it with a ubiquitous soccer song, Ricky Martin's "Cup of Life" from the 1998 World Cup. Enjoy.

  • Three years on and this video is still being viewed. Many thanks to those who have commented, sure it wasn't a great game and I was a pretty sub-par player :) but we still remember it well.

  • We played "micro-prose soccer" more often . But this also a lot before that. I think now i would prefer this one. Less is more, that is good to describe the game to the generation of today i think. P.S. when we played this, the game already was pretty antique i think (1995 ish).

  • Microprose Soccer. I played that a few times and couldn't get used to the overhead view, it wasn't easy to tell which player you had control of or who had the ball. The music was good though :)

  • I remember beating Level 9 4-1 all those years ago. I was so pleased at the time :)

  • I hail your achievement - that wouldn't have been easy to do! :)

  • lol who needs pes? anyone remember doing the thing when you could keep it up on your head from one end of the pitch to the other. mine was one a cartridge and loaded straight away

    how cool !

  • Oh yeah, heading the ball was crazy-as. Wasn't easy to pass to teammates though :)

  • Me & my Bro had this on the CPC 464... it was played religiously every afternoon when we got back from school (toward midnight and beyond sometimes too)... we used to edit the squads & keep a tally of the results etc. Good times... now we just do exactly the same with PES!!! (This was a great soccer game which ranked high at the time with Microprose & also Kick Off 2).

  • oh wow this is soo good its perfect lol mabey try the song with just a tat little bit better graphics and could be a youtube cult classic lol

  • Ah yes, I played this quite a lot in my younger years. The hardest difficulty is pretty difficult.

  • My brother used to hit on the shoulder everytime I scored, so that ruined it for me with this game. :-(

  • haha, the guy who wrote the game came to my house yesterday x'D

  • The best trick was to time it just right at kick off so that you could run down the pitch bouncing the ball on your head, straight into the goal.

the weird thing is that when I first played this game it looked incredible.

  • I recall one insanely long session with this game. Despite its very plain presentation, it was strangely addictive in that "why the hell am I still playing this" sort of way.

  • May I know how to get it? Is it on nintendo or sega?

  • Solid game

  • This was amongst my fav c64 game of all time.

    It was fun
