My BlueLine 4-8-8-4 #4023 big boy is here, and for the most part, its an incredible locomotive. Here are several shots of it running back and forth.
There were just a few things that are bothersome. The website advertises that it comes with lighted number boards, and there aren't even number boards, let alone lighted ones, and often when in reverse, the sound just completely cuts out (you'll see in this video)

  • Rachmaninov08- Hi, I have a Blueline Big Boy with the same sound problem - running reverse in DC, the sound cuts out. Did you find out what the problem was?

  • I think it's a decoder problem, 'cause I've experienced it with every single blueline locomotive I've had. It just seems to happen more consistently with the big boy...

  • sweet i perfeer australian models like austrain uereakea models but i like bachmann and blueline i want to get an ac12 walters loco also if possibe

  • I don't think Walthers plans to make an AC12 (if you're talking about cab forwards).

I know Intermountain Railway Company plans to build another run of AC-12's, and Broadway Limited (company that makes Blueline engines) plans to build a few.

  • Hi:

Do you use DC or DCC?

  • DC. I have the DCMaster to control the whistle and bell.

  • Has anyone made one that blows out smoke steam and fire like the reals one did.

  • is it on eBay possibly

  • hmmm....id send it back to the company if you are still having trouble with it. but first, try out the nearest hobby store and get theiyre take on the situation. one of my four blueline mikados did that, and they got the keyboard cleaner air in a bottle and sprayed the connections and it worked. so check out a hobby store and if they cant help ya, just send it back to broadway limited

  • nice. love the whistle.

  • I had this same problem with a blue line prr j1 2-10-4, really annoying.

The other major problems with blue lines are the headlights, they tend to flicker and die out frequently, I had this happen with two J1's.

Its a real shame because Broadway locos are highly detailed and look beautiful, but I have had more problems with their blue line series. I think its a bad connection in the tender, check to see if the decoder is firmly plugged in.

BLI will also repair it for free,. Good luck.

  • How much does a chep version of dcc that has smoke cost aprox?

  • wonder why the noise cuts out in reverse that really sucks dude

  • Don't they make steamers that smoke anymore? that was always my favorite part growing up. Either way, very cool.
