We have taken over a derelict allotment in Sunniside, Gateshead, in the North East of England. We are aiming to restore it and grow or forage for as much of our food as possible. This video records how we got on on the allotment in January and February 2009.

  • Yes please more video's this year. I have a allotment in Liverpool, which i will be recording and posting on youtube next summer. KeepItUp and many thanks from BrainFrazzler.

  • very good job put some more new video please for this year

  • Cool - me mam's in Whickham. How did it all turn out then? After all that hard work I hope it's going well.

I'm beginning to grow things myself but have to stick to patio planters at the moment.

Any tips on earwigs eating all your spinach? Cheers!

  • That's a lot of manure to have to shift! Still, we use it and it makes a huge difference to the productivity of the crop.

  • 5 tons! That's how you do it - this looks great - I've got an allotment in Gateshead not too far from your good selves and I'm finding it difficult to find a good source of well rotted manure. BTW check out 'Johnnies allotment' on youtube - this guy has an allotment in Bristol I think but he sounds like a geordie - hilarious stuff!

  • Looking great Jonathon, well done. Ive got an allotment near the tyne which was in similar state to yours at the start.
