Hundreds of people from a dozen European countries marched to the European Parliament and Council, pushing supermarket trolleys of food free of genetically modified (GM) ingredients. The protest coincided with a meeting today of European Union (EU) Member States Representatives and highlighted the importance of EU Ministerial meetings where important decisions will be made on GM labelling. EU ministers will determine whether or not consumers will be given a choice over eating GM foods.

  • did you know that if one million people sign a petition, it will go straight to the EU parliament? my country is small and we have 10 million (I think), make a international petition.

  • In 2004, the European Commission won a court order against France, but Paris only began implementing the rules in July this year.

  • The European Court of Justice said France's conduct was unlawful

    France refused to apply a 2002 law which set out how biotech crops could be planted in areas where other conventional crops were being grown.

    Paris has said internal opposition by environmentalists is too strong for it to press ahead with the new measures.
