This tutorial describes the process of creating materials for AEC Extended Objects in 3d Max. AEC Extended Objects include walls, doors, windows, railings, and stairs. Applying materials to these objects includes using the Multi-Sub Object material selector and applying five different materials to one AEC object. The material editor can be used to maximize space when using AEC objects.

If you have any questions about using materials for AEC Extended objects, please comment on the video or on my channel. Hearing from you allows me to make videos that benefit you, the viewer. I hope these videos assist you in future modeling.

  • how do you transformed them into glass and wood materials?

  • @takalitoys Through your material editor. Press "M", then change your material from standard to Multi-Object. The material is going to be in slots 1 - 5. Each object uses different material slots for the parts of the object.

  • hey this video is great, but do u know where i could get materials?

  • they should already be in your computer if you have 3d max. Go to your C: > Program Files > autodesk > 3D Max > maps > ArchMat

They should all be there, or just google materials for 3d max. You'll find three billion of them. I take photos and Photoshop them for some of my custom objects.

  • Make sure the material is tileable. If not, its not going to look right when you apply them and tile it.

  • or if you guys would like, simply change the door/window into an edible poly, select all the polys and set them to material "1". afterward you can unwrap and texture it to your hearts content without the need of 5 materials ^_^, or not.
