"Parakh" is a 1960 Indian Hindi film that seems to portray Bimal Roy's lighter side but is in fact a satirical look at Indian democracy in its early years. Roy received the Filmfare Best Director Award for the film.

Starring Sadhana Shivdasani, Durga Khote, Leela Chitnis, Sheela Rao, Kanhaiyalal, Motilal and Hari Shivdasani.

This film has a very popular song "O sajana, barkha bahar aai.." sung by Lata Mangeshkar, penned by Shailendra and composed by legendary Salil Chowdhary who also happens to be story-writer of the film. While not one of Bimal Roy's greatest works, is still considered one of his best. The film became a "semi-hit" at the box office

Awards and nominations; * Filmfare Best Director Award - Bimal Roy * Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award - Motilal * Filmfare Best Sound Award - George D'Cruz * Filmfare Nomination for Best Film

Lata Mangeshkar (Marathi: लता मंगेशकर; born September 28, 1929) is a singer from India. She is one of the best-known playback singers in the Hindi film industry. Mangeshkar's career started in 1942 and has spanned over six and a half decades. She sang in over a thousand Bollywood movies and has sung songs in over twenty regional Indian languages, but primarily in Hindi. She is the elder sister of the equally accomplished singer Asha Bhosle and lesser-known singers, brother Hridayanath Mangeshkar and sisters Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. Lata is the second vocalist ever to have received the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.

Mangeshkar was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world.

Awards and recognitions;

Lata Mangeshkar has won several awards and honors, including Padma Bhushan (1969), Padma Vibhushan (1999), Dada Saheb Phalke Award (1989), NTR National Award (1999), Bharat Ratna (2001), three National Film Awards, and 12 Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards. She has also won four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards. In 1969, she made the unusual gesture of giving up the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award, in order to promote fresh talent. She was later awarded Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993.

In 1984, the State Government of Madhya Pradesh instituted the Lata Mangeshkar Award in honor of Lata Mangeshkar. The State Government of Maharashtra also instituted a Lata Mangeshkar Award in 1992.

Filmfare Awards

The Filmfare Awards for playback singing first started in 1958. In 1956, the song 'Rasik Balma' from the film Chori Chori won the Best Song Filmfare Award. Lata refused to sing it live in protest of absence of a Playback Singer category. The category was finally introduced in 1958. Though, separate awards for male & female singers were introduced later on.

Lata Mangeshkar monopolized the best female playback singer award from 1958 to 1966. In 1969, Lata made the unusual gesture of giving up Filmfare awards in order to promote fresh talent...........

  • Whenever I listen this song nostalgically, it takes me back into my childhood in 1961, when I was hardly ten years old. I love this song since that day onwards until now. May Allah shower his choicest blessings upon Lataji and Salil Chowdhury.

  • @juneg1964 - Thank you my dear friend Dr. Arjun for the nice comment.
